She is out of multiple stakes producing mare Out Of My Dreams, by Two Punch. The filly was a $130,000 purchase at the Keeneland September Sale. Kitten’s Joy is the leading sire in North America with nearly $15 million in earnings so far this year. He has ranked in the top 5 in North America for six straight years. He has been the leading turf sire in North America every year since 2012. This year alone, he has produced 13 stakes winners of 19 stakes races with seven graded stakes wins including 3 grade one wins. He is the sire of such millionaires as Hawkbill, Stephanie’s Kitten, Big Blue Kitten, Roaring Lion, Oscar Performance and Sadler’s Joy to name a few.
Out Of My Dreams was a multiple race winner of $45,400 and full sister to the stakes placed winner of more than $200,000, General Tommy. Out Of My Dreams has four foals of racing age, three of which are already black type winners, all by fairly modest sires such as Songandaprayer and Macho Uno. The mating to Kitten’s Joy should provide a tremendous opportunity for her offspring to find even greater success.
This big chestnut filly is a real stunner! The first thing I noticed when she came out was her quality and presence. She’s hot !%#& – and she knows it! Even though she’d made a very favorable initial impression, that needed to be set aside, as each horse must be evaluated thoroughly before any conclusions are drawn. The inspection started with the filly walking away from us and we noticed that she planted and pushed off her hocks powerfully. She also tracked well through her hind limbs. “As she walked towards me I knew the first thing I would be looking for were the knees,” said Marc Wampler, Pocket Aces Racing’s blood stock and racing manager. “Kitten’s Joy has a reputation (and deservedly so) of throwing knees that are significantly offset, however, hers were as close to ideal conformationally as I had seen on a Kitten’s Joy. She tracked well through her fore limbs as well and she was correct from the ankle down.”
Stood up (side view-conformation pose), she is a big filly with plenty of strength in her gaskins, hips and forelimbs. She has a great frame that should also allow for more growth. In addition, she stands over a tremendous amount of ground which should translate to a long stride. She also has the big, deep girth we like to see on our horses. Based on all the above information the filly was short listed and we came back the following day to put her through her paces again and compare her to the other short list horses. “During the second inspection it’s a given that the horse has the basics and some quality,” said Wampler. “That’s why I’m not necessarily focused on ‘picking them apart’ at that stage. That was done in the first inspection. For the second inspection I like to stand in the middle of a circle and have the horse walk around me until I’ve gotten a good feel as to whether or not it’s an athlete. It may sound odd but I am trying not to look at anything, while seeing everything, during this stage. A better way to describe the process would probably be – I stop looking at the individual parts and focus on how those parts work together. This is also the time I like to pay particularly close attention to their minds. Over the years we’ve determined this plays a very significant role in a race horse’s potential success at the track. As this filly walked around me she put her head down and went right about her business. Always moving forward, nothing bothering her. She is certainly very athletic with easy, fluid action in her forelimbs and a loose movement from the hip behind. Fortunately, we were able to find a patch of concrete to walk her on as well. On concrete, a good walk can be heard, as much as seen, and it was the sound of her walk that convinced me we had to buy this filly.”
