High Powered was the winner of the fourth race at Turfway Park earlier this evening. He broke well but found himself at the back of the pack going into the turn. Santiago was content to sit patiently in last place about seven lengths off the lead through the back stretch. As they entered the far turn. Santiago shook the reins a bit and the race was basically over. High Powered hit the top of the lane a length on top and gradually pulled away to win by nearly three lengths. He was never threatened in the least through the stretch.
Susan told Santiago before the race that she wanted High Powered close to the lead early. When the lead pair bolted out early, Santiago made the decision to sit back and trail the field. He told her he just knew they were going too fast too early and didn’t want to compromise High Powered’s chances. It turned out to be the perfect decision. High Powered’s career record improves to 5-5-3 with earnings of $57,859 in 26 starts.
