Pocket Aces Racing LLC is extremely excited to announce that we have recently added a very handsome Lemon Drop Kid colt, first foal out of a Graded Stakes placed mare, to the Pocket Aces Racing Stable.We didn’t have him onour original “look” list andwe feel very fortunate to have caught him just as he came up to the back sales ring. As we were walking to the back barns to look at more horses, a chestnut horse caughtourattention and the morewe watched him taking his turns around the ring, the more impressedwe were by his calm demeanor and big, athletic stride. At that pointwe pulled him out to get a closer look and found that his conformation was good through his knees and ankles and he tracked very well. Whenwe got a better look at him standing up,we could quickly tell that he was going to have the body typewe look for as well. He has good size, with plenty of growing still to do. He stands over plenty of ground and I love the strength in his forearms, hips and gaskins. His sire, Lemon Drop Kid, stands for $40,000 at Lane’s End Stud and has proven to be one of the most consistent sources of top-class runners in North America. Lemon Drop Kid himself was a Grade 1 winner at 2, a classic winner at 3 (Belmont S.-G1) and multiple Grade 1 winner at 4. He earned over $3,200,000 for his career while showing speed at 2 and an ability to carry that speed as far as 12-furlongs as an older horse.
As a stallion he has equaled his success on the race track with progeny earnings in excess of $61,000,000 and a list of 77 stakes winners to his credit – an incredible figure from just 12 crops. His leading runners include Richard’s Kid – Pacific Classic-G1 winner; Lemons Forever – Kentucky Oaks-G1 winner and Itsaknockout – winner of this year’s edition of The Fountain of Youth S.-G2. It is important to note that his mother was quite a solid runner during her career as well. Her career got off to an auspicious beginning with a 7 length victory in her debut as a 2-year-old. From there she went on to amass a bankroll of $150,000+ while placing 2nd in the Iowa Oaks-G3, Instant Racing S. and Panthers S. We would also like to point out that the Lemon Drop Kid/Tale of the Cat cross this colt is bred on has proven to be highly successful over the years. The cross has produced graded stakes winners Kid Cruz and Customer Base along with stakes winning Candy Kitty and the grade 2 placed Pass the Dice.
