Aces High was a very gutsy winner in the opener at Canterbury Park earlier this evening. Alex said Aces High was keyed up and ready to go when he loaded into the gate and actually tried to time the start himself. He went just a fraction of a second too soon and when the gate didn’t open, he lost his footing for a bit and broke to the outside. He quickly gathered himself and stalked the early leaders through the first turn on down the back stretch. He poked a nose in front at the half-mile mark and engaged in a back and forth three-horse battle the rest of the way. Aces High got about a head in front and looked like he might put them away when the 3-horse made a last gasp effort. Aces High held on to win by a nose.
The win improves Aces High’s record to 5-6-4 with earnings of $214,443 from 29 career starts.
