Cyclone Ranger was a thrilling last-to-first winner in the opener at Gulfstream Park earlier this afternoon. He got absolutely hammered coming out of the gate by the six-horse. He was then pinched between the four and the six before he could gather himself and dropped back to last. He trailed by around 12-15 lengths coming out of the first turn. Zayas did a fantastic job of not panicking and just allowing Cyclone Ranger to lope along behind relatively fast fractions. Cyclone Ranger went into the far turn about 10 lengths back and made a big move between horses about midway through the turn. He was able to kick out into the lane at the top of the stretch with a full head of steam. It was just a matter of whether or not he had enough track to catch the odds on favorite leader. He got up in the final couple strides to win by less than a length.
