Pocket Aces Racing LLC is very excited to introduce the newest member of our stable, a yearling filly by Unified out of Swampoodle, by Broken Vow. The filly was purchased at the Fasig-Tipton October Sale on Wednesday for $33,000. We had hoped to add another prospect for around $20,000. However, when we saw this filly we knew we were going to exceed our budget.
The filly is by the exciting young sire, Unified. Unified was a multiple graded stakes winner from 6.5 furlongs to 9 furlongs. He captured the Peter Pan Stakes and Bayshore Stakes at the age of three and the Gulfstream Park Sprint at four and amassed more than $475,000 in earnings. Unified is by the great sire of sires, Candy Ride (sire of Gun Runner, Twirling Candy, Shared Belief, Misremembered, Sidney’s Candy, Mastery and many more.)
She is out of Swampoodle by Broken Vow. Swampoodle was a stakes placed winner of more than $80,000. She has six foals of racing age, four of which are winners. Two are stakes winners. Dolkong won 8 races in Korea and was named champion. He was also a stakes winner at Meydan and was beaten just 8 lengths by Thunder Snow in the Dubai World Cup. Always Hope was a stakes winner in Panama. Despite his relative youth as a broodmare sire, Broken Vow is perennially on the list of leading broodmare sires. He is the sire of dams of Runhappy, Warrior’s Charge and 27 other stakes winners.
“She is a tall, leggy sort,” said Pocket Aces Racing LLC’s bloodstock and racing manager, Marc Wampler. “She has a deep girth and stands over a lot of ground. She has a particularly good neck and shoulder and I like the way her hip angle allows her to stride out well behind. She reminds me a lot of Temple City Terror and our new Mastery filly. She also has a very smart demeanor about her. Being a successful racehorse is more than a good physical. Going through an auction is often very stressful for young horses. This filly remained cool, calm and collected at every phase of the process.”
The filly is a Kentucky bred, but she is Virginia Certified. She is therefor eligible for a 25% bonus on any wins at tracks in New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia and West Virginia. She will also be eligible for restricted races at Colonial Downs. Therefore, it is our intent at this time to send her to Graham Motion at Fair Hill Training Center when she is ready for the race track. From there, she will have easy access to tracks throughout the mid-Atlantic. We have already spoken with Graham and he has agreed to take the filly, which is no small accomplishment in and of itself as he is very selective about what he takes at this point in his career. Because we intend for her to go to Graham, the initial price and quarterly fees have been adjusted for his rates.
