Silver Hammer was the winner of the 5th race at Canterbury Park earlier this afternoon by nearly a length. He broke very sharply from the gate and sat just off the shoulder of Aubrey Ridge down the back stretch. Sermon By The Sea and Florida Two Step sat just off the lead pair. Silver Hammer put away Aubrey Ridge mid-way through the turn and hit the lane on top. Sermon By The Sea made a big move coming out of the turn and put a nose in front of Silver Hammer in the stretch. Silver Hammer dug in along the rail and quickly retook the lead. East Side Boy finished strong to get up for second.
Eddie Martin Jr. told us following the race that Silver Hammer really only ran in spots. He said it was almost like Silver Hammer was just playing with the other horses. Every time Eddie got his attention back he responded and started running again. This is particularly evident in the stretch when he was passed momentarily in the stretch. Eddie shook him up a bit and Silver Hammer ran right on by Sermon By The Sea. Eddie feels like we haven’t gotten close to the bottom of Silver Hammer yet.
